Adrenal glands

Adrenal Glands

Adrenal glands [Ad-meaning near] [Renal-meaning kidneys] are small, triangular shaped glands located on top of the kidneys. An adrenal gland is made of two parts: the outer region is called the adrenal cortex and the inner region is called the adrenal medulla.

The adrenal glands work interactively with both the hypothalamus and pituitary glands, by helping releasing various hormones (i.e. hydrocortisone, corticosterone, aldosterone, androgen, epinephrine [adrenaline] and noradrenaline)
